LEE
Lt. James Lee, Clayton County Sheriff's Office retired, passed away Wednesday, the evening of July 30th at his home in Locust Grove. His family was at his side. "Pappy," as he was affectionately known by his friends and colleagues, was born James Reed Lee in East Liverpool, Ohio on June 3, 1931. He was the youngest of three children born to the late Howard and Virginia Lee. He graduated Wellsville High School in Wellsville, Ohio and ENTERED THE ARMY INFANTRY IN 1951. HIS UNIT SERVED IN POST-WAR ERUOPE WHERE HE RECEIVED THE UNITED NATIONS SERVICE MEDAL AND THE OCCUPATION MEDAL (GERMANY). LATER HE SERVED IN KOREA WHERE HE EARNED THE PURPLE HEART, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN'S BADGE THE, NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL AND THE KOREAN SERVICE MEDAL. HE WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED IN 1960. After leaving the service he attended Florida State University, became a manager for Dobbs Houses in Jackson, Mississippi and later went to school and got a Locomotive Engineer's certification. In 1968 he was employed by Arlyns Department Stores in Atlanta as the District Security Manager. In 1972 James was hired by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office from which he retired in 1993. During a distinguished 20-year plus career he availed himself of many hours of Law Enforcement Training at the Georgia Police Academy, the Georgia Public Training Center, the U.S. Marshal's Service Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Smith and Wesson Academy Armorer's Certification Training School. During his tenure he was promoted through the ranks, working as Commander of the Clayton County Fugitive Squad and worked special assignments with South Metro Narcotics Squad and the GBI Metro Fugitive Squad and served as a shift commander in Field Operations.  He is survived by his wife Brenda, daughters Mrs. Johnny (Michelle) Efird of Dallas, Ga., Mrs. Daniel (Melody) McKenzie of Fayetteville, Monica Reid Lee of Locust Grove, Brenda Zoe Lee, Roseville, Ca., Jane Elizabeth Ludwin, Chicago. He is also survived by sons Danny Max Lee of Chicago, Terry Lynn Lee of Columbia, S.C., Randy James Lee, San Diego, along with 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  There will be a memorial service with full honors afforded a fallen officer at the Pinecrest Baptist Church, 6021 Maddox Road, Morrow on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Services will be officiated by the Rev. David Maddox, Associate Pastor, and assisted by Chaplin Stan Owen, Clayton County Sheriff's Office and Mr. Greg Prosser, family friend. Jim was a dedicated family man, a distinguished law enforcement officer and a true and valued friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  May he rest safely in the hands of God for all eternity.

JONES
Charles E. Jones of Riverdale died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Athena Rehabilitation Center.  He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Jones.  A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.  Survivors include his wife, Marge Jones; daughters, Linda Roberts of McDonough and Diane Menz of Jonesboro; sons, Richard Jones of Jonesboro and Garry Jones of Riverdale; five grandchildren.  Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Tara Garden Chapel, Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements. DONALDSON
James Treavor Donaldson, age 24, of McDonough, died Aug. 2, 2003. Treavor was a graduate of Lovejoy High School and Atlanta Christian College. He was a teacher at Jonesboro Middle School.  He is survived by his parents, Bob and Mary Donaldson of Jonesboro; brothers, Tom Donaldson of Dayton, Ohio, Mike Donaldson of Locust Grove; sisters, Maggie Bateman f Arvada, Colorado, Kaki Downing of Dayton, Ohio; two nieces; five nephews.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. at the First Christ Church of Jonesboro, with his pastor and friend Mac Cregger officiating. Mrs. Annie Mae Cothran, 88, of Jonesboro, Ga., passed away on Aug. 2, 2003.  Mrs. Cothran was a former member of the Rebecca Lodge in Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband Hugh L. CAUDLE
Mrs. Gaynelle McElroy Caudle, age 78, of Forest Park, passed from this life to join her Lord, husband Bill and son Terry on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003.  Born Sept. 19, 1924, she was raised in East Point, Ga., and had lived in Forest Park for the last 55 years.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 in the Morrow Chapel of Pope Dickson & Son, with the Rev. Scott McHugh, a great nephew, officiating. Jack Ponder Neal, age 79, of Forest Park, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2003.  MR. NEAL WAS A VETERAN OF THE U.S. ARMY, SERVING DURING WORLD WAR II. HE PARTICIPATED IN THE D-DAY INVASION, WHERE HE LANDED IN NORMANDY. HE WAS DECORATED WITH THE PURPLE HEART FOR WOUNDS RECEIVED IN ACTION. He was preceded in death by Juanita Neal and a daughter, Ramona Neal.  A service celebrating the life of Mr. Neal will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Dickson's Morrow Chapel, with the Rev. TURNER
Jerry Andrew Turner, 63, of Maryville, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was a Captain in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Mr. Turner was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University. After 30 years of federal service, he retired from the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C., where he was honored with the Secretarial Award for Distinguished Service. Mr. Turner was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Joseph and Maye Duffee Turner of Jonesboro, Ga.  Mr. Turner enjoyed church activities, golfing, woodworking, fishing with his grandson, gardening and a good game of "Rook." Mr. Turner will be long remembered by his family, relatives, and friends for his kindness, gracious hospitality, sense of humor, and outpouring of love for all.  Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with the Rev. Mr. Clarence Abbott, 85, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003.  Mr. Abbott was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Mr. Abbott retired from Eastern Airlines with 35 years of service. Teresa Gail "Nolen" Lowe, 44, of Calhoun, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Gordon Hospital.  Lowe was born July 19, 1959, in Fulton County. Mrs. Carolyn Ann Holloway, age 51, of Trice Road, Milner, Ga. passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, in the Select Specialty Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mrs. Holloway was born July 15, 1952, in Hall County, daughter of the late Sylvester Puckett and Carolyn Garman Puckett. Mrs. Holloway attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Buford.  Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 11 from the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Bill Dyer officiating. Special music was presented by the Happy Pilgrims. PITTMAN Sr.
Mr. Marcus L. Pittman Sr., age 88, passed away suddenly at his residence in Clayton County.  A native of Clinch County, he had lived in Jonesboro most of his life. HE WAS A VETERAN OF THE U.S. ARMY, SERVING IN THE 635th ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY WARNING BATTALION DURING WORLD WAR II. HE SERVED UNDER GENERAL GEORGE PATTON, PARTICIPATING IN THE INVASION OF NORMANDY (D-Day), THE RHINELAND CAMPAIGN, AND THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. HE RECEIVED A PURPLE HEART AND A CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH THREE BRONZE STARS. He was the son of the late Clifton F. and Hattie Capps Pittman. His sisters, Margie Pittman and Mary Emma Pittman, and brothers, Clifton F. Pittman Jr. and Curtice Oswald Pittman preceded him in death.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery.  Survivors include his children, Barbara Ann Simmons of Mt. Andrea Dawn "Grant" Steele, 35, died on Aug. 14, 2003, in Conyers. Josef Coffey "Skipper" Vance, Jr., age 58 died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, in a plane crash. Mr. Vance was a graduate of Wayne State College and West Georgia College. HE WAS A VETERAN OF THE U.S. MARINE CORP., and founder of Advertising Ideas. Mr. Vance served as past president of the Rotary of Jonesboro. He was a member of the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Commemorative Air Force. He will be remembered for his generous and compassionate heart and love of aviation. He was a faithful servant of the Lord. His last words to the ground crew were "God loves me so much, I have the best job in the world." A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 3480 E. Main St., College Park, Ga. He is survived by his parents, Josef and Ann Vance of Highlands, N.C. and Largo, Fla.; sisters, Vicky Vance Rogers, and Dinah Vance Hoch; aunts Mary Lynn Broyles and Ethel Holder Vance; uncle, Tim W. Robert E. (Hutch) Hutchens, 73, of Morrow died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003. Born in Sheridan, Ind., ROBERT SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY. He retired from the Department of Defense after 35 years of distinguished service and was recognized by the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Outstanding Achievement as a member of the Office of Inspector General. He was a member of Police Benevolence in Morrow. An avid golfer, Robert also worked at Lake Spivey Country Club. His parents, Russell and Laverne Hutchens, and grandson, Drew Hutchens, preceded him in death. Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.
