Alice Fleming BROOME, age 91, of Stockbridge, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.  She was born in Thomasville, Ga. to the late Scott Cavassa and Mary Ella Fleming. She was a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church, and a 50-year cancer survivor. Her husband, Wallace E. Maudell L. WEED, 80, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. Weed was born in Hall County, Ga., and in her earlier years was a traveling evangelist. More recently, she was a member of Still Waters Church in Fayetteville.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, from Parkway Garden Chapel, with interment following at the Weed Gresham Cemetery in Tucker. The Rev. Mark Paschal officiated. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 1.  Weed is survived by two daughters, Jeannette and her husband Greg Moody of Fayetteville, and Judy and her husband Gerald Tweedell, also of Fayetteville; five sons, Jimmy and his wife Hilda Weed of McDonough, Johnny Weed of Hampton, Don Weed of Forest Park, Ron Weed of Decatur, and Mark Weed of Forest Park; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James F. Weed.

Carol Fay Hall MITCHELL, 62, of Jonesboro, died Feb. 28, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Robert Mitchell. She retired in 2000 as a transportation specialist with the General Services Administration of the United States Government and was a member of Randleman Church of God.  Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Linda Mitchell of Riverdale; daughter and son-in-law, Hope and Robert Lewis of Jonesboro; parents Cora and Ernest Kinder; grandchildren Matthew Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Timothy Lewis and Dylan Lewis; sisters Doris Mason of Kewanuee, Wi., Beverly Glime of Green Bay, Wi., Shirley Baskin of Sutherlin, Ore.; brothers James Kinder of Port Orange, Fla., John Lee Kinder of Mt. Mr. Frank ARENDELL, age 75, of McDonough passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 in the chapel. Robert (Bobby) J. BROWN, 41, passed away suddenly Saturday, March 1, 2003.  Bobby was born May 4, 1961, in Atlanta, son of Ronald C. Brown Sr. and Patricia S. Brown. He was a resident of Mint Hill, N.C., a devoted father, son, and brother. He was employed by Johnson Whatley Properties in Matthews, N.C.  There will be a funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 6 in the Jonesboro City Cemetery in Jonesboro.  Survivors include his daughters, Maddie Brown of the home, and Nikki Brown of Stockbridge; father, Ronald C. Barbara A. (Babs) HUDSON, age 48, of Winder died Sunday, March 2, 2003, after a lengthy battle with kidney and liver disease.  Daughter of the late William (Billy) and Vie O. (Mickey) Rowell, she was a member of St. Anthony's Episcopal Church in Winder. Barbara was employed by WIMO radio station for more than 10 years, and was a resident of Barrow County for 24 years. Her brother, William E. (Butch) Rowell Jr. preceded her in death.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8 in Smith Memory Chapel with Father John Dukes and the Rev. Kyle T. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Sherwood Cemetery in Jonesboro. The body will lie in state beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Charles Kendrick (C.K.) ROBERTS of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the age of 82.  His wife, Ruby I. Mr. Theron Alton CREEL Sr. of Fayetteville died Monday, March 3, 2003.  He was the youngest son of William T. and Elliotte Walker Creel, both members of pioneer Clayton County families who settled the Bethsaida community in the 19th century. The Creel family were founding members of the Bethsaida Baptist Church, which was occupied by Union troops in the aftermath of the Battle of Atlanta. He was a deacon and building trustee of Bethsaida Baptist Church. HE WAS A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II, SERVING IN THE NAVY SEABEES, retired from Otis Elevator Company and the City of Atlanta. He was a trustee of the International Society of Electrical Engineers. His brother, Cletus Creel, and sister, Cleo Creel Collier, preceded him in death.  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at McDonough Road Baptist Church with remains placed in state at 1 p.m. Dr. David L. Chancey and Dr. J.W. Wallis will officiate. Alvin Sonny BOSTIC, age 62, of Forest Park, passed away March 5, 2003. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He managed the family-owned and operated Bostic Grocery in Jonesboro for many years and also retired as a truck driver. Edward H. L. WERNER Sr. of Stockbridge passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003.  Mr. Werner was born in Pendleton, S.C. Nov. 27, 1911. He was the oldest of 10 children born to O. P. (Pop) and Mattie Howard Werner. During his days in South Carolina, known by the nickname "Spratts," he played semi-pro baseball and worked in area cotton mills. During World War II he worked on the Seaboard Railroad as a brakeman, and learned the carpentry trade by working on the Fontana Dam Project.  In 1949, he moved his family to Atlanta and began working in construction, and became a general contractor. In 1962, he became a building inspector for DeKalb County, and retired in 1974, as the Chief Building Inspector and Fire Marshal. After retirement he worked for Jim Ellis Volkswagen, and as a lay minister conducted numerous revivals around the country, and participated in several Southern Baptist Layman Crusades.  He was married Dec. 15, 1935, to the late Jewel Cox Werner, with whom he had five children. Following her death in 1972, he married the late Aline Durden Werner, who passed away in 1999.  A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at Salem Baptist Church, 1724 Decatur Road (Hwy. 155), McDonough, Ga. 30252. Interment followed at East View Cemetery in Honea Path, S.C. on Sunday, March 2.  Survivors include his children, Harry L. Werner (spouse, Marilyn) of McDonough, M. Lloyd Werner of Atlanta, Alan L. Werner (spouse, Gail) of Snellville, Alice M. Werner of Lawrenceville, and Miriam Werner Witcher (spouse, Tommy) of Stockbridge; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, three sisters.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church's building fund.

Willie Carl "Bill" WILLIAMS, 76, of Hampton, died March 8, 2003, at Christian Ministries in Griffin. Williams was born June 26, 1926, in Athens, Ga., the son of the late Josephine Huff and John R. Williams. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Diane Roscoe of Newnan; stepchildren, Randy R. Whitton, Gary W. Whitton and Synthia Mauldin, all of Griffin, David R. Whitton, Alan J. Moe and Regina A. Moe, all of Hampton; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and special friend Dot Callahan of Hampton.   A memorial service will be Wednesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Lee BRANTLEY, 34, of 2289 Harmony Road, Elberton, husband of Rena Brantley, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Atlanta Medical Center. Born in Fulton County, he was a son of the late William Avery Brantley and Delores Ramsey Brantley. He was of the Baptist faith. Cleo BARRONTON, 91, of Christian City, died March 15, 2003.  Barronton is survived by four nephews and their spouses, Eugene and Mary Lewis, William and Peggy Lewis, and Homer Lewis, all of Fayetteville; Richard and Betty Roberts of Cumming; two nieces, Shirley Barnett and husband Morris of Kingwood, Texas, and Hampie Barronton of Stockbridge. She is also survived by 13 great-nieces and great-nephews and numerous great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. James William BABB Sr., 80, of Morrow, and formerly of Mountain View, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003.
He was the son of the late Ernie P. and Viola Babb. Mr. Babb was retired from Calvert Iron Works and Delta Airlines.

Steven Walter DINGLER, 47, a resident of Lee County, Fla., passed away at his home in the Woodridge community on Saturday, March 15, 2003, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Dingler was born at Fort George G. Meade military hospital in Anne Arundel County, Md. July 28, 1955. Being the son of an Army Sergeant, he attended many schools from the East Coast to the West Coast, with three years overseas in Germany. After finishing high school in Naples, Fla. Mr. Dingler graduated with honors from the Culinary School of Washington, D.C., having achieved many awards for his culinary expertise. He was an avid fisherman and genealogist. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Gordon Road in Newnan, Ga., with Pastor T. Kent Fuqua of Lord of Life Lutheran Church presiding. Mr. Dingler is survived by his loving wife, Debra Ann; stepchildren, Mark Ellis and Keri Ann Boyer; four step-grandchildren; mother, Judy Tyson; stepmother, Rebecca Dingler; sisters, Janet Boyd and Kathy Hartmann; brother, Alfred Lee Dingler; many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. William Joseph KELLEY, 67, of Carnesville, passed away this Thursday morning, March 20, 2003, at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa, Ga. Born March 26, 1935, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Joseph Hoke and Mary Brown Kelley. He was a sergeant with the Clayton County Sheriff's Department. HE SERVED FIRST IN THE U.S. NAVY AND THEN RETIRED AS A TECHNICAL SERGEANT IN THE U.S. AIR FORCE AFTER 20 YEARS. HE WAS A VETERAN OF BOTH THE KOREAN AND VIETNAM WAR. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at the Cross Roads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Bell officiating. He will be buried with military honors in the Dawn Memorial Park in Decatur, Ga. at 3:30 p.m. March 22. Judith A. ROOKS, 58, went home to be with the Lord March 23, 2003. She was born July 19, 1944, in Buffalo, N.Y., daughter of Brayton and Ruth (Aloan) Littlefield. Judith was a beloved Mother, Daughter, and Grandmother. She was predeceased by her father Brayton Littlefield. Donna "Mimi" BRANTON passed away March 24, 2003, after a short battle with cancer. Mrs. Branton had lived in Forest Park for 22 years after retiring from the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Charles Wilson; grandson, Mitch Knight and wife, Jessica, and great-granddaughter, Lauren Knight. Mrs. Branton had a large extended family, her stepson, Lane Branton and wife, Wilma; step-granddaughters, Claudia Smith and husband Stuart, Susie Kilgore and husband, Ken, Sheila Matthews and husband Greg, and step-grandson David Branton and wife Renee. There are 15 step-great-grandchildren: Lindsey, Spencer, Adam, Erika, Olivia, Alexander, Abe, Aaron, Carolyn, Kyle, Jennifer, John, Sarah, Lane, and Claire. All residing in Arkansas. Mrs. Louise Branton, step daughter-in-law and step granddaughter Sherry of Houston, Texas.
