HAWKINS
Mrs. Amalie Maly Hawkins, 79, of McDonough passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at her residence.
She was born June 29, 1924, in Passau, Germany, daughter of the late Karl Ruch and the late Olga Barthe Ruch.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1 at Pope Dickson and Son Jonesboro Chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Hawkins; son, Karl Palmer; daughter, Rita Esquibel; grandchildren, Cheri Setliff and James Haga; sister, Olga Kiernan; stepson, William and Pamela Estil of Fort Worth, Texas; grandsons, Christopher and Brian; stepdaughter, Kathy and Robert Roth of Amarillo, Texas; grandsons, Alex and Mathew.

MARKS
William Neal Marks of Jonesboro died Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2004, at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. He had been ill and fought a good fight.  Neal was born Nov. 23, 1954, in Powell and Smith Hospital in Swainsboro, to proud parents Bonnette and Vernon Marks, also of Swainsboro. He was the adored grandson of Cochineal Rich Daniels of Swainsboro for whom he was named and is now deceased, and John William Daniels of Emanuel County who was deceased at the time of his birth and for whom he was also named, and May and Virgil Marks of Marion, Ill., now deceased, but from whom he received his surname and his beautiful black hair. He was big brother to Sharon Marks Manross, and a loved nephew and cousin to family members in Georgia and Illinois.
Neal's devoted wife, Sarah Eileen Marks, who had fought the fight of his illness at his side, was with him, as well as his parents, two of his daughters, his sister, aunt, nieces, nephew and numerous other family members and friends at the time of his passing from this life to eternal life. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Eileen Marks; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Marks; four children, John Courtney Marks, Raven Nicole Marks, Trisha Diane Marks and Brittany Danielle Marks; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Lynn Rule and Brandi Cheri Stevens; and sister, Sharon Marks Manross, as well as seven grandchildren and many aunts, uncles and cousins, and Sonny Dart Barton, a special friend who Neal was privileged to be a father figure to.  Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 2, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Dr. George Worrell and the Rev. Hinton Harris will officiate. HATCHER
Vera Laudis Turner Hatcher, 77, of Jonesboro, died Jan. 31, 2004. Surviving are sons Gary Hatcher, Darryl Hatcher; sisters Lautrell Anderson, Lyndall Hightower, Larraine McCleskey; sister-in-law Ann Turner; four grandchildren; step-grandchild Chessy Gaylor.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel. STARR
James Thurman Starr of Jonesboro died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, after a short illness. He was preceded in death by daughter Jane and son Bob. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hattie Lee; brothers Harold and Terrell Starr; daughter-in-law Janet; grandchildren Tracy and Mike, Michelle, Lisa and Joey, Leslie and Scott; great-grandchildren Dusty, Amanda, Alex, Matthew, Dylan, Victoria, Hannah, Rebecca; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.  Starr was retired from Auto Soler. He was a 50-year member of Forest Park Masonic Lodge and a lifelong member of Mt. Zion First Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church. DIXON
Hollen Dixon of Forest Park died Jan. 30, 2004. He was a retired truck driver and Clayton County bus driver. He was a member of the Rex Masonic Lodge.  Dixon is survived by his wife, Rosie Dixon; son Al Shoemaker-Dixon of Cleveland, Ga.; daughters Sheryl Sanford of Forest Park and Debbie Addison of Forest Park; grandchildren Shelby Love, Kristy Ward, Jason Sikes and Keli Sikes; great-grandchild Travis Love; sisters and brothers-in-law Carolyn and Lamar Durham of Conley, Judy Gail and James Farmer of Savannah; and sister-in-law Carrie Dixon of Forest Park.  Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Mrs. Nancy L. Elrod of Fayetteville died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004.  Mrs. Elrod was a member of First Baptist Church of Forest Park and volunteered at Southern Regional Medical Hospital as a Pink Lady for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Elrod, and daughter, Marie Elaine Elrod.  Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at First Baptist Church of Forest Park, with the Rev. Paul Robins officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.  Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William Randolph and Helen Elrod of Winter Haven, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Steven Tafoya of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Robert and John Elrod.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

HENRY
Bruce Eugene Henry, 68, of Riverdale, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004.  Mr. Henry is a 1965 graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara, Calif. He later accepted a position as Photographer for Delta Airlines, Atlanta, Ga. in November, 1968. He enjoyed 25 wonderful and productive years until his retirement in November, 1993. Mr. Henry was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Riverdale for many years, during which time he was a Sunday school teacher, a head Elder and board member. In his spare time he communed with the Lord by growing a fabulous array of fruits and vegetables. Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Nina Henry, and also by his brother, Gerald Robert Henry.  Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Riverdale.  Survivors include is loving wife, Barbara Linda Henry; daughters, Cynthia Jean Henry of Hampton and Pamela Ann Lanning of Wake Forest, N.C.; son, Gerald Robert Henry of Locust Grove; brother, Kenneth R. Mrs. Mary Turner Brown of Lake City died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004.  Mrs. Brown was a member of Jones Memorial UMC, the Forest Park Eastern Star, where she served as Past Matron in 1977 and 1978, and a charter member and past president (1970 and 1985) of the Ladies Auxiliary of Taraettes Shrine Club. She retired from Fort Gillem after more than 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Emma Frances Turner, her husband, Robert Newton Brown Jr., and son, Robert Newton Brown III.  Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6 in the chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.  Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Armstrong of McDonough; daughter-in-law, Tammie Brown-Johnson and David Johnson of McDonough; grandchildren, Johnny Buice, Robert N. Mrs. Mary P. Mann, 87, of Fairburn passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Fairburn Healthcare.  She was born June 20, 1916, in Clayton County, daughter to the late Philip P. Perkins and the late Mary Elizabeth Newsome. Mrs. Mann was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Dorothy Ann Frye Orr, 66, of Jonesboro, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at a health care facility in Riverdale.  She was a native of Chattanooga and has spent most of her life in Jonesboro, where she was a member of the Jonesboro Baptist Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky and Bobby Orr; sister, Jo Lockhart; parents, Herbert Louis Frye and Lillie Irene Roach Frye.  Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 13 at 2:30 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel, with the Reverend Junior Bryson officiating. Internment will follow in the New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.  Survivors include her husband of 51 years, the Rev. Mrs. Eleanor Booth Jones, 83, of Morrow, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at her residence. She was born February 8, 1921 in Spalding County, a daughter of the late Robert Booth and Astor Davies Booth.  She was retired from retail sales and was of the Baptist faith.  Mrs. Jones as the widow of the late George W. Jones.  She is survived by her son Bill Jones of Morrow; daughter Charlotte Nicoson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sisters, Mildred Reeves of Macon and Betty Hardin of Lake Talmage; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harriett Hughes Lett, age 73, of Thomas Trail, Meansville, passed away February 16, 2004.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Julius Jay Lett. She was retired from Rich's Department Store after 27 years of service. She lived in Jonesboro for over 30 years and recently moved to Meansville. Ms. Lett was a homebody and enjoyed gardening with her faithful dog "Gretzhen" at her side. Mr. William E. "Bill" Davis, 86, of Jonesboro, passed away on Feb. 16, 2004 at Henry Medical Center.  Mr. Davis was a graduate of Montgomery County High School in Ramer, Alabama and SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMY DURING WWII as an Ordnance Tec 4.  He was a member of Gideons International, and a past president of the Jonesboro Rotary Club. Mr. Davis was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Ga. and was the owner of Davis Office Supply in Forest Park from 1960 to 1984.  Survivors include his loving wife, Edna Davis of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews.  Funeral services for Mr. William E. Mr. William Alvin Anderson Jr., age 54, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004.  Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 in the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, with the Rev. DEVORE
Mr. Joseph A. Devore Jr., 71, of McDonough, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, of complications from pneumonia.
Mr. Devore was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Mr. Devore was born in Baldwin Park, Calif. and raised in Passaic, N.J. HE SERVED HONORABLY IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE FROM 1952-1956, DURING WHICH TIME HE WAS STATIONED IN THE FAR EAST AS A RADIO OPERATOR. A graduate of Seton Hall University and the University of Bridgeport, he worked in corporate accounting positions for Pepperidge Farms, BeechNut Corporation, Alcan Aluminum and was comptroller for Teledyne. Most recently he owned Comprehensive Accounting in Forest Park, Ga. for 18 years. After his retirement in 1998, he enjoyed volunteering as a reader at Hickory Flat Elementary School. Along with his wife, he was involved in mentoring engaged couples through the Marriage Encounter Program. He enjoyed volunteering as the "storekeeper" at Stately Oaks Plantation in Jonesboro. He was deeply involved in church activities and enjoyed sports, reading, gardening, and political activity. But most of all he delighted in his family, his friends, his community and his faith. And though he is with God now, his wisdom, his humor and his love endure.  Joe Devore's life will be celebrated at a Funeral Mass Friday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Philip Benizi Roman Catholic Church in Jonesboro.  He is survived by his wife Betsy Newberry Devore of McDonough; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Devore Hill and Mark Hill of Fort Plains, N.Y., Peggy Devore Westbrook and Chuck Westbrook of Snellville, Ga., Mary Jane Devore of Seminole, Fla., Maura Newberry Burke and Andrew Burke of Clarkston, Ga., and Beth Devore Brantley and Richard Brantley of Decatur, Ga.; sons, James F. DEVORE
Mr. Joseph A. Devore Jr., 71, of McDonough, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, of complications from pneumonia.
Mr. Devore was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Mr. Devore was born in Baldwin Park, Calif. and raised in Passaic, N.J. HE SERVED HONORABLY IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE FROM 1952-1956, DURING WHICH TIME HE WAS STATIONED IN THE FAR EAST AS A RADIO OPERATOR. A graduate of Seton Hall University and the University of Bridgeport, he worked in corporate accounting positions for Pepperidge Farms, BeechNut Corporation, Alcan Aluminum and was comptroller for Teledyne. Most recently he owned Comprehensive Accounting in Forest Park, Ga. for 18 years. After his retirement in 1998, he enjoyed volunteering as a reader at Hickory Flat Elementary School. Along with his wife, he was involved in mentoring engaged couples through the Marriage Encounter Program. He enjoyed volunteering as the "storekeeper" at Stately Oaks Plantation in Jonesboro. He was deeply involved in church activities and enjoyed sports, reading, gardening, and political activity. But most of all he delighted in his family, his friends, his community and his faith. Barbara Perry, age 82, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at her residence in Nashville, Tenn. after having a long battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Perry (33rd degree Mason and past Worthy Grand Patron Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star State of Georgia 1979-1980). Sister Barbara Perry was Past Matron and Member of Forest Park Chapter 290 Order of the Eastern Star. Sister Barbara served as the President of the Tara Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Taraettes in 1971. She served Forest Park Chapter 290 as Worthy Matron in 1976 and again in 1993. The Worthy Grand Matron for the Grand Chapter of Georgia appointed her as Grand Marshall in 1979-1980. She was a caring individual and served on the Board of Trustees of the Georgia OES Elderly for a number of years.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Parkway Garden Chapel. Harvey Allen Myers of Loganville, formerly of Clayton County, died Feb. 20, 2004. He was born in Xenia, Ohio. He retired from Bayer Inc. in 1996. He was a dedicated employee of the Atlanta Braves until 2001. James G. Chandler (Chain Hoss), 83, of Riverdale, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at a local hospital.
Mr. Chandler retired from the Ford Motor Company Hapeville Assembly Plant with 31 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Union Local 882, and was a member of the Masons at the Forest Park Lodge. Dewey Edward Hendrix Sr., 84, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, of heart failure.  Mr. Hendrix started working as an Operator with the Georgia Power Trolleys in 1939.
