PACE
William Elliott Pace of
Brooks, formerly of Jonesboro, died July 12, 2003. He was a 30-year employee of
the Clayton County Department of Transportation and Development. He was preceded
in death by his sister Alice Ozley. He is survived by his brother, James A. Pace
of Brooks, and his sister, Leila Nickols of Lansing, Mich. He is also survived
by three nieces and three nephews. Graveside services will be
held Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Ed
Lynch will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday

UPTON
Virgil L. Upton, 73, of
Stockbridge, formerly of Key Largo, Fla., died July 11, 2003, at the Christian
Ministries Hospice in Griffin. He was born Feb. 23, 1930,
in Miami, Fla., the son of the late Mamie Toney and Clarence Upton. He was a
member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and a retired supply and control
clerk for Eastern Air Lines. Upton was preceded in death
by his wife of 42 years, Velma Cates Upton, and brother, Harold Upton. He is
survived by his wife of 11 years, Birdie G. Parker-Upton; children, Donald and
Florence Upton of Bulverda, Texas, Lisa and Eric Wishe of Sugarloaf Key, Fla.;
grandchildren, Gerri Wishe, Katie Upton and Marc Wishe; sisters, Mildred Salter
of Senoia, Myrtle Hockaday of Morriston, Fla., Martha Taylot of Bessemer City,
N.C., Linda Pendt of McDonough and Darlene West of McDonough; brother, Leonard

Verna W. Driver, age 100,
of Riverdale died Tuesday, July 15, 2003. Her husband, A.H. Driver,
and son, Larry Driver, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18 at Parkway Garden Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Judy
officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Survivors include her
daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Bob Wilkins; grandchildren, Cathy and Brad

Mozelle F. Johnson, 83,
formerly of Forest Park, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Bramblett
Ridge Assisted Living Home in Jonesboro, Ga. She was a member of the Lighthouse
Community Baptist Church in Stockbridge. Survivors include:
daughter, Sharon Dee and Mike Rhodes of McDonough, Ga.; son, Keith and Ellen

Forest Park died Wednesday, July 16, 2003. He was a member of First
Christian Church of Forest Park and A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II. Services were held at 4

Mr. J.D. Bell, age 77, of
Hampton, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was a member of Shiloh
Baptist Church in Lumpkin County, and was a retired auto mechanic. He was
preceded in death by Mr. Calvin Bell. A funeral service was held
at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with the

Baptist Church. Her father, William F. (Bill) Cook, and paternal grandparents,

Zan Janet Waldrop (Baker)
of Jonesboro, died July 20, 2003. Waldrop was a longtime member of First Baptist
Church of Jonesboro and retired from Delta Air Lines. Preceded in death by her
parents, Sarah Nolan and Manse Waldrop Jr. and sister Sarah Jacklyn Waldrop
Standard, she is survived by great nieces, Sarah Olsen, and Laken, Lauren and
Baby Waldrop; nieces, Jill Standard Olsen and husband Eric and Dana Waldrop
Williams and husband Wes; nephew, Manse Waldrop and wife Leigh; brother, Dan

Patricia Ann Magill, 60, of
Hampton, died Saturday, July 19, at Southern Regional Medical Center. Magill was born Feb. 4,
1943, in Fulton County, to the late William Ford Amos and the late Annie Lee
Walker Amos. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Donald Amos. She
was a member of the Riverdale Christian Church and was president of the Phoenix
Concrete Cutting Company in College Park, Md. She has served as past national
president of the Women Construction Owners and Executives of America. Survivors include her
fiance, Bill Fulmer of Fulton, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynn
DeFoor of Riverdale; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tony Reid of Hampton;
extended children, Leta Kay Reynolds, Donald Lee Ballard and Sherry Payne;
grandchildren, Dalyn "Boo" DeFoor, Brandi and Hunter Reid; sister and
brother-in-law, Barbara and Robert Culver of Stockbridge; brother and

Mrs. Hazel Woodruff Banks,
age 85, of McDonough died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Henry Medical Center. She was a member of Second
Baptist Church of Forsyth, and a resident of Baptist Inn where she was one of
their pianists. Mrs. Banks was born in Lithia Springs, Ga. Oct. 11, 1917,
daughter of the late Annie Lula Crouch and Wesley Willis Woodruff. Her husband,
William Aubert Banks, who died Jan. 24, 1962, preceded her in death. Graveside services will
take place at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Survivors include her
children, Emily and Bobby McKinnon of McDonough, Bill and Cathi Banks of
Birmingham, Ala., Grady and Jo Coggins of Conyers, Connie and Ward Hall of
Phoenix City, Ala., and Tim and Debra Banks of Ball Ground, Ga.; eight

James Buchanan, age 73, of
McDonough and formerly of Houston, Miss. died Monday, July 28, 2003, at
Sunbridge Care Nursing Home in Riverdale. He was a retired carpenter.
His wife, Barbara Pumphrey Buchanan, preceded him in death. Services will be held at 10
a.m. Thursday, July 31 at Houston Funeral Home, Houston, Miss. Interment will

Mr. Howard W. Turner, age
60, of Riverdale, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003. Mr. Turner was retired from
Delta and currently the administrator of Good Shepherd Clinic in Morrow. He was
also a member of the Gideons. A memorial service will be
held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at 1st Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro, with
the Rev. Charles N. Landreth officiating. Survivors include his wife,
Vicki Turner; sons, Brian Turner, and Glenn Turner II; parents, Estelle and
