Ozburn, Mr. Arch McKinney "Mack", 75, of Riverdale, passed away Sunday,
June 1, 2003. Born March 17, 1928, in Riverdale, he lived his entire life
on the property on which he was born. He attended Riverdale Elementary School,
Jonesboro High School and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1949 with
a Master of Fine Arts degree. He taught band at Jonesboro High School until HE
WAS DRAFTED IN 1950. WHILE IN THE ARMY HE SERVED AS A CHAPLAIN'S ASSISTANT AT
FORT McPHERSON, AND FINISHED HIS SERVICE IN
YOKOHAMA, JAPAN. In 1955, he married Ida Calhoun McDermid and had two
daughters, Rebecca (1957) and Joanna (1960). He taught English at Grady High
School, and served as Counselor for Atlanta public schools and at Atlanta City
Hall. He also served as an elementary school principal at John B. Gordon,
R. L. Hope in Buckhead, and Emma Hutchinson schools, retiring in 1978. He was
active in the Atlanta Retired Educator's Association, serving as
President for four years. He also served as organist with Hapeville
Presbyterian Church, East Point Presbyterian Church, and organist and choir
director at East Lake Methodist Church and First Baptist Church in Hapeville. He
spent 20
years as organist and choir director at Riverdale Presbyterian Church. He
was a member of the Atlanta Guild of Organists for many years, having studied
with Emily Spivey, Bill Weaver, and Hugh Hodgson. He was a member of
Riverdale Lion's Club, and was the district director for Lion's Project for
Canine Companions for Independence. He was also a director for Georgia Camp for
the Blind. Mr. Ozburn enjoyed a modeling and acting career in the 1980s
and 1990s. He appeared in print ads and was an excellent walk-on for
several TV movies. He enjoyed gardening and was a fan of architect Frank Lloyd
Wright. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 at the
Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Minister William Crosland, the Rev. W.W.
Satterwhite, and the Rev. William Phillipe officiating. Interment will follow at
Sherwood Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Ida M. Ozburn;
daughters, Rebecca Ozburn and Joanna Ozburn, both of Newnan; sister, Idajo
Daughtry of Huntsville, Ala; and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Lion's Project for
Canine Companions for Independence, or the Georgia Lion's Camp for the Blind.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Orr, Walter Russell passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003. HE WAS A
WORLD WAR II VETERAN, AND RETIRED FROM THE NATIONAL GUARD AFTER 20 YEARS OF

Hampton, Stephen Michael, age 17, of Locust Grove, passed away Friday,
June 6, 2003, at his residence. Stephen was born Oct. 31, 1985, in
Hyannis, Mass. He was a member of Community Bible Church and was a student at
Jonesboro High School. He worked as a lifeguard at Atlanta Beach and loved the
outdoors, where he enjoyed baseball and hunting. Funeral services will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8 in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with
Dr. Jack Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at Brown Family
Cemetery in Barnesville. Survivors include his parents, Clayton Hampton
and Joy Brown Hampton of Locust Grove; sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and
Kyle Lewis of Locust Grove, Kristi and Chris Gott of Jackson, and Katie and

Wheeler, Robert "Tex", 70, of Jonesboro, passed away June 8, 2003.
Surviving are wife Shirley Wheeler; sons, Robert "Bobby" Wheeler Jr., Jimmy
Wheeler; two sisters; one brother; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with

Wagener, Moise, 97, of Forest Park, passed away on Saturday, June 7,
2003, at his residence. A veteran in the U.S. Army, Wagener served his country
as part of a horse cavalry unit. Survivors include sons Donald and Carolyn
Wagener and Robert and Linda Wagener; five grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be

Durrance, William R. "Randy" of Appleton, Wis. died Saturday, June 7,
2003. He was born in Atlanta May 2, 1958, son of Sim and Maggie (Dunn) Durrance.
On June 30, 1980, he married Debra Hartley. Randy loved life and fought
the cancer that finally took him away from us. He spent many happy hours working
on cars and racing them, and he thanks all his car buddies for their friendship
and the fun times. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday,
June 11 at Morrow First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Jackson

Swahlen, Mr. Arthur W., 83, of Griffin passed away Saturday, June 7,
2003, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Swahlen was born in Atlanta April 12,
1920, son of the late Arthur W. Swahlen Sr. and the late Era Hughes Swahlen. He
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin. MR. SWAHLEN SERVED HIS
COUNTRY IN THE ARMY DURING WORLD WAR II IN THE PERSIAN GULF. He was retired from
the Civil Service after 35 years of service as the Chief of Graphics Arts at
Fort McPherson. During this time he receive 90 letters of appreciation and
commendations for his work as a graphic artist. Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9 in the Warren Haisten Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bruce
Morgan and the Rev. Max Hamilton officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Hill
Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 58 ½ years, Sarah Swahlen; son and
daughter-in-law, Arthur W. Swahlen III and Betty Swahlen of Concord; grandsons,

Nursing Home. He left to be with our Lord and Savior after being graced with 81
years of life. Louis was born in Decatur, Ga. He was married Jan. 21,
1945, and worked for and retired from Complete Auto Transit in Lakewood
Heights/Atlanta, Ga. as a Master Mechanic and Welder for 28 years, during which
he also
ran and owned his own business, "Tumlin's Garage," in Lakewood Heights. He
was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and a faithful follower of the

L.D. "Dailey" Selfridge passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003, after a battle
with cancer. L.D. was founder and former co-owner of Shamrock Scale
Company, Morristown, Tenn., and co-owner of the Hairy Moose Pet Retreat,
Gallatin, Tenn. He traveled the Southeast United States selling industrial
weighing equipment. He was a very loving father and husband. He was never afraid
to show kindness and thoughtfulness toward his family and others. His kindness
and his love for animals was evident to all. Interment will be held at 1
p.m. Saturday, June 21 in the McDonough City Cemetery, McDonough, Ga.

Arthur Leeroy DAVIS Jr., 75, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2003. MR. DAVIS WAS A VETERAN OF THE U.S. NAVY, WHERE HE SERVED IN THE PACIFIC THEATER. He was also retired from BTJ Steam Pipefitter Local 72. He was also a member of the Jonesboro VFW and the Georgia Sheriffs Association. Michael Aldine LEWIS Sr., 46, passed away June 16, 2003. He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Aldine Lewis. He is survived by his son, Michael A. passed away Friday, June 20, 2003, in Stockbridge. Mr. Brown was a member
of Conley First Baptist Church and SERVED DURING WORLD WAR II IN THE ARMY AIR
FORCE. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 22 at

Mrs. Hettie Young Priest, age 95, of Stockbridge, passed away Thursday, June
19, 2003, at the Center for Long Term Care in Jonesboro. Mrs. Priest was
born Dec. 6, 1907 in Cleburne County, Ala. to the late William Young and the
late Molley Maddox Young. Her husband, Robert Priest, and stepson, Clemon
Priest, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 23 at Oak
Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Acworth. Survivors include nieces, Sheree

Vivian A. Long, 73, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24,
2003, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. She was born March 22,
1930, in Forest Park, Ga., daughter of Walter and Nellie Bankston Clark. She
married Glenn H. Long Aug. 2, 1952, in LaHarpe, Ill. He preceded her in death
April 6, 2002. She was a bookkeeper at the former Roddefer's Department
Store in Galesburg. She then worked as an assembler at the former Gale Products
Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 11 years, retiring in
1981. She worked for 13 years for the Neiman-Marcus Distribution Center in
Carrollton, Texas, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Philadelphia
Presbyterian Church in Forest Park, Ga. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, July 1 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will follow
in East Linwood Cemetery. Survivors include her son, Michael (and Banyen "Poo")
Long of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Carol (and Dennis) Rankin of Roseville, Ill.,
and Lori Long of Carrollton, Texas; three grandsons; several nieces and nephews.
A brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to
